Sonic Valium is currently made of Sarah Tancer on vocals, Steve Walker on bass, Mike Pond on guitar, Bill Beninghoff on violin, and chendo on cello. Sonic Valium originally began as a collaboration between SF DJ, musician, and producer chendo, San Diego artist Codexico, and SF DJ Dylan Tolbert. Several years ago these kindred souls met at the Burning Man Festival through mutual friends at what is now referred to as “The Hammer Show”. This pirated sunrise performance/art spectacle at center camp bonded all who witnessed and unknowingly locked in place the foundation for the formation of Sonic Valium. Today Sonic Valium’s collaboration has expanded out and also includes singer and violonist Bill Beninghof mixing beats, sounds, and liveness, Lucid Mechanism’s amazing vocalist Sarah Tancer, and Strategik’s Steve Walker laying down soulful bass.
Sonic Valium provides the soundtrack to the timeout. Often considered Nap music for grown-ups, shavasana hardcore, or deep chill. Sonic Valium is a refreshing break from the up-beat pace of life’s demands. Cody once said “Our true fans rarely make it through the first song. Actually they usually pass out in sound check. Its amazing how those who love us the most – actually know our music the least!”
These days Sonic Valium has brought in beats to accompany the chill when the moment calls for it and has kept people up and moving before tucking them in, snugly under the covers.
